North Charleston police are investigating an early morning shooting in the Pepperhill community that left a vehicle riddled with bullet holes but no reported injuries.

Officers responded to the area of Brandywine Road and Mountainbrook Avenue around 12:40 a.m. Friday after residents called in reports of gunshots. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The North Charleston Police Department has not released information about a suspect or motive, and the investigation remains active. It is unclear how many shots were fired or whether any witnesses have come forward.

The Pepperhill community sits in one of North Charleston’s residential corridors, and late-night gunfire calls in the area draw concern from neighbors who have pushed city officials in recent years to address gun violence in residential neighborhoods.

North Charleston has grappled with gun violence across multiple neighborhoods. City leaders and the police department have faced repeated questions from residents about response times, investigative resources, and what strategies are in place to address shootings before they escalate.

The department did not indicate Friday morning whether any surveillance footage was recovered from the scene or nearby businesses, nor did officials say whether additional patrols would be deployed to the Brandywine Road and Mountainbrook Avenue area in the aftermath of the incident.

Residents with information about the shooting are encouraged to contact the North Charleston Police Department directly. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Lowcountry Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone who heard or witnessed the shooting and has not yet spoken with police should contact investigators. Cases involving property damage from gunfire can be difficult to close without eyewitness accounts or physical evidence tying a specific weapon or individual to the scene.

The shooting adds to a pattern of overnight incidents in the city that strain departmental resources and raise questions about public safety staffing during overnight hours. North Charleston operates one of the larger municipal police forces in South Carolina, but community advocates have argued for years that staffing levels and investigative capacity have not kept pace with the city’s growth.

City Council members who represent districts covering Pepperhill have not yet commented publicly on Friday’s shooting. The Charleston Sentinel has reached out to the North Charleston Police Department’s public information office for additional details, including whether any arrests have been made since the initial call.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
